
Biography
Denise Oyelese, cozyup.ca, is a textile artist who lives and creates on the Syilx Territory of the Okanagan. In her Kelowna studio, she has an abundant and fascinating range of materials and tools. Silks, wool, assorted fabrics, fibres and containers of found objects are at hand. Sourcing and curating predominantly used, recycled or discarded materials, is a major part of her practice and belief system. Through self-directed learning and keen intuition, Denise has developed her skills and techniques, often using the nuno felting method. She is fueled by experimentation and a visceral drive to transform. Her art community includes being an active member with the Ponderosa Fibre Arts Guild for 15 years, and being a fibre arts juror for Lake Country ArtWalk. Currently teaching and mentoring new felt makers, she has also conducted a workshops for the Folk Art School in Peachland. Her felted works, both functional and art pieces, are exhibited locally and showcased in various venues such as the Lake Country ArtWalk, Lake Country Art Gallery, the Rotary Center and most recently, Peachland Art Gallery.
